Here at Dunfermline Podiatry Centre, we have access to a wide range of orthotics. There are two main types of orthotics available, prefabricated or custom made. After an examination our experienced podiatrists can prescribe the most suitable type for you. Our pricing ranges from £70 to £260. Orthotic Devices
Orthotics are devices that you wear in your shoes. Often people get mixed up with orthotics and arch supports. Arch supports are items that anyone can buy in shops and they are used to fill up the extra space in your shoe. This is not the same as an orthotic. An orthotic can only be prescribed by a licensed podiatrist. An orthotic may look similar to an arch support, however there is a built-in prescription in orthotics that ensures your foot is held to an exact position. The type of orthtoic and the prescription you require will be chosen by the podiatrist based on the data collected from a biomechanical examination.
Functional Orthotics
Functional orthotics may be simple prefabricated devices or custom made and manufactured specifically for you and no-one else. These will accommodate your unique foot structure and pathology.
Accommodative Orthotics
Accommodative orthotics are softer and designed to provide additional cushioning and support. These are commonly used in the elderly, diabetics or those with Rheumatoid arthritis.
